Re: Advantage Package???
Ændringer i S85 motoren gennem produktionsårene (E60/E61). Jeg samler det lige i samme tråd:
With the hell of Troy, Jim Colley from fast attack motorsports, and myself, this is the most detailed breakdown on the web for the S85 updates.
2006 to early 2007= version 1:
-old vanos pump (also has dumb shim for pump and tensioners are bad design as well)
-old crank gear for vanos pump
-old vanos line
-old vanos units
-old 88/89 bearings with poor material makeup
-old oil pan with only one drain plug
-old vanos solenoids (black body)
January 2007-2008= version 2:
-All new parts as compared to the above engine
-Two drain plugs on oil pan (Build date 3/2007 and on)
2009 to 2010= version 3:
8/2008 was the start of the 2009 Model year M5.
-All of the version 2 parts
-702/703 bearings (Troy has changed six 2009 motors, and all of them had the 702/703 bearings)
-Longer Set Bolts for Cylinder Head 2x (5/08)
Old bolt size: M10x110. New bolt size: M10x115.
-Intake and Exhaust valves different, same valves from M3 S65 engine now
P/N changes specific to Engine numbers starting with 2xxxxxxx (8/08) -Start of 2009 Model year M5-
-All Valve Collets and upper spring plates changed for above^ (8/08)
-Larger bolts for block to hold upper oil pan together to main block stronger (1/08)
12 bolts. Old bolt size: M8x94. New bolt size: M9x97.
These new bolts are also shared with M3 S65 engine.
-Piston cylinder oil jets are better design
Troy’s breakdown:
Below are a list of the reasons I feel the S85 engines built before January 2007 are not the best examples of an S85 (lets call them version 2). In March/August of 2008 (lets call that version 3), the second and final round of enhancements to the S85 were made for the 2009 and 2010 model year ~ both of which I feel are the best S85 engine years to purchase. My company sold 69 S85 V10 motors last year & I have personally disassembled over 30-core exchange motors so I can get a first-hand look at what the failures are and understand this motor better
The first & in my opinion, leading cause of poor bearing quality in the early build motors is the lack of an oil pan drain plug in the pan section ahead of the power steering rack & subframe. For a picture reference, I poured water in a clean oil pan to show you just how much old & used oil remains in your engine after you get an oil change. I filled this Monster drink bottle I had 5-times with water to fill the front of the oil pan (which is exactly where the vanos pump sits and oil pump). 84.5-fluid ounces of oil never get flushed out from your motor when you get an oil change ~ THAT IS 2.5-LITERS of oil. A horrendous design in my opinion & it was rectified in part of the Jan. 07 build updates.
